I've always been interested in placing things within a new context. I use people in my work to investigate invented possibilities, and present something familiar within an unfamiliar setting or environment, or in a new light. I like to work with a person until they are no longer themselves, but become a character, or even a prop. Currently my work draws influence from photographic techniques, particularly glass plate photographs and negatives. Although I don't consider myself a photographer in the traditional sense, I am interested in the manipulation of a still image. I like the premise that photographs can lie. I am also very interested in the physical hands on approach that painting and printmaking can embrace beyond the digital process and beyond the chemical process that photography offers.
