f(l)ight: Stephanie Bell

The Gallery at R&F is pleased to present a solo exhibition of recent works by Stephanie Bell.  This exhibition will be on view from December 6th through January 17th.  Please join us on Saturday, December 6th, from 5-7 pm for the opening reception of "f(l)ight" at the R&F Gallery. This event is free and open to the public.

This solo exhibition features the work of Stephanie Bell a Hudson Valley artist with strong connections to R&F Handmade Paints and the Women's Studio Workshop. Her work incorporates mediums that both organizations are known for: handmade paper, ceramics, encaustic, and pigment stick. Stephanie’s art investigates how obsession, needs, and desires affect the human condition. She writes:

"Control is the illusion that everyone strives for, whether it be what you had for breakfast, the route to work, how much cocaine you need to make it through the week, the number of beers it takes to erase today, how often you have to clean your hands before they're clean enough, or when it's safe to go to sleep.

I’ve witnessed how overwhelming fear and need often override any moral code or common sense. I explore obsession through the underlying biological and neurological structures that make people act the way they do. It's fascinating how the rearrangement of simple building blocks can create such malignant results, and despite the physiological factors that control an individual, the response is always one of two: fight or flight."

The Gallery at R&F in Kingston promotes the various contemporary uses of oil paint and encaustic.  The Gallery space is housed within the factory of R&F Handmade Paints, which is one of the few manufacturers of encaustic paint in the world.  Located at 84 Ten Broeck Ave, in midtown Kingston, NY gallery hours are Monday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm.  For further information, call (845) 331-3112.
