Assemblage: New Narratives in Wax

Class Levels: Intermediate

This workshop is now FULL, please call us at #845.331.3112 to be added to our wait-list.

In this three-day class, students will explore the idea of personal narrative through mixed media and assemblage constructions. Using encaustic as a unifying material, we will look at incorporating wax through collage, pouring, painting and simple sculpting techniques. Students are asked to consider their personal narrative ahead of class. We will use the first day to share ideas and look at corresponding materials to discuss compositional concepts. Our goal is to acquire a clear understanding of successful constructive methods for mixed media panels and the appropriate incorporation of wax as a design element. Students are encouraged to think of their panel compositions as telling a story. We will explore the option of working with panels in diptych and tryptic styles. This class is best suited for intermediate level students.
